Kate chats to BBC Radio 4: “The whole world’s gone mad!”

A wonderful interview with Kate this morning on the Woman’s Hour programme on BBC Radio 4. Kate said the situation was “just extraordinary … quite shocking really, isn’t it? I mean, the whole world’s gone mad.”

“It’s such a great series, I thought that the track would get some attention. But I just never imagined that it would be anything like this,” Kate said. “The Duffer brothers created the series and actually we watched it from the first series onwards, so I was already familiar with the series. And I thought what a lovely way for the song to be used in such a positive way. You know, as a kind of talisman almost really for Max. And yeah, I think it’s very touching, actually.”

Dave Cross from HomeGround discusses The Big Sky video shoot!

Photo: John Carder Bush from “Kate: Inside The Rainbow”

Cecilee Linke in the US has set herself the impressive task of covering every single Kate Bush song, one per episode, on her Strange Phenomena podcast. She is already on to the Hounds of Love album, and this week is her episode on the song The Big Sky. Among other contibutors she talks to our own Dave Cross of HomeGround Magazine fame. Dave chats about how himself, Peter and Krys helped to organise 150 fans to attend the taping of Kate’s 1986 music video for The Big Sky. Did you know that Dave starred in the video (along with Peter!) and donned a fetching moustache at Kate’s request as one of the Wright brothers?!  You can listen to the episode here

Three more radio interviews with Kate!

Jamie Cullum

Three new interviews to listen out for: This evening Kate’s interview with Jamie Cullum was finally played on BBC Radio 2. This was a different interview segment from the one with Jamie that was broadcast on Dutch Radio last month (52 minutes long – listen here). This evening’s interview is a 20 minute segment. From the BBC website: “Jamie conducts a rare interview with Kate Bush, as the British singer-songwriter, musician and record producer talks about the jazz she loves. Kate also tells the story behind Misty, a track on her new album 50 Words For Snow. The two musicians discuss the complex time signatures within Misty and compare them to Take Five by Dave Brubeck, before chatting about their different approaches to composition, and their mutual love of Billie Holliday and Steely Dan.” Listen again to the new interview segment here. (outside the UK? listen here.)

On this coming Thursday 8th December, Kate does an American radio interview with Larry Flick on Sirius XM OutQ Radio, 12pm-4pm UK/Ireland Time (7am Eastern Time USA/GMT-5 hours.) You can listen live here (note that this radio station requires a free signup for 7 day trial, which just needs an email address).

Mark RadcliffeDJ Mark Radcliffe in the UK announced today that he is going to see Kate tomorrow and the resulting interview will be broadcast part 1 on Monday 12th December and part 2 on Tuesday 13th December on BBC Radio 6Music (the show is 1pm to 4pm, the interviews are usually on at 2.30pm). 50 Words For Snow: A Conversation With Kate Bush in the Huffington Post

Short interview with Mike Ragona in the online Huffington Post

Excerpt:

Mike Ragogna of the Huffington PostMR: Nice. Could you go into some background on “Misty”?

KB: The thing about that song, aside from having sort of unusual subject matter, is that it’s a very long song–it’s the longest song on the album. I think it runs about 14 minutes. It wasn’t even that I set out to write a song that long, but I was trying to explore the idea of working with longer song structures and moving away from the more traditional form. I wanted to be able to tell the story through a much longer piece of time and so I was able to go through various elements of the story and, hopefully, make the song build. The subject matter is sort of just about a girl who builds a snowman, and later the snowman comes to visit her in her bedroom.

MR: As snowmen often do.

KB: Well, I don’t know about that unless people just keep quiet about it. (laughs)

Kate interview in today’s “Dagens Nyheter” Swedish newspaper

The Swedish newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” (Todays’ News), featured an interview with Kate, which you can read (in Swedish) here.

Kate started by asking the interviewer how the Swedish winter was. When told that they can be very long, lasting 4-5 months, Kate replied: “Wow, snow for 4-5 months? Good lord! It’s hard to imagine a long winter like that. I hope that doesn’t have a negative impact on what you think of my album” followed by laughter from Kate.  Kate is asked if she does most of the producing on her records, the reply was “Yes, even the tea-making”. When asked how she keeps her voice in shape, Kate replies: “I’m not the kind of person who walks around at home singing while cooking and stuff. And I never exercise my voice, maybe I should. I only sing when I make music really.” Download the full translated interview here. Thanks to Jens for sending in the translation.

This was soon picked up by Reuters especially Kate’s fears for the current state of the record industry.
