New packshots of the CD and Lothlorien coloured vinyl versions (out on October 31st) reveal more of the artwork.
The CD booklet includes an illustration of a beekeeper with a lyric quote from You Want Alchemy. The image is a detail from a 1568 pen and ink drawing called The Beekeepers by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Kate’s song, a fan-favourite b-side, tells the story of a meeting with an eccentric but wise beekeeper “on a Cloudbusting kind of day”. Kate has revealed on her site that the song was left off her album The Red Shoes for reasons of space.
In a 1985 interview with Melody Maker, Kate revealed that Bruegel was one of her favourite artists. “I would want to be Bruegel, definitely. His work is so real, and yet depicted in a fantastic way. It’s so beautiful and elemental. And his faces are so haunting.” Read more about The Beekeepers by Bruegel, here.
