Glowing review of Kates’s new album here from Rob Heigh at the Dublin Gazette newspaper site. Also a nice mention for a little event I’m organising on June 18th. Read it here.

A great review of DC and it ties in nicely with the photo of DC selling at number 1 in Dublin’s Tower Records store. It would be great news if DC climbed the Irish charts from its current position of number 4. I am sure all the publicity in the Irish press and radio has helped Kate and in particular her song ‘Flower of the Mountain’ which must be of great interest to the Irish nation.

The Irish have very good music taste! 😉

  3. That was a nice review, and it made a nice change from a lot of fan comments I’ve been reading all over the net. I think the reviewer was correct when he said, “A deep love for the original recordings might hinder some from entirely embracing this approach… ” I intended right from the start to treat these songs as entirely new entities, instead of making cold comparisons to the originals, and I think doing that has helped me to enjoy everything this album has to offer. There really is a lot going on with this album, and I think it’s a shame there’s people out there that can’t separate themselves from the originals properly to enjoy all the wonderful things DC has to offer the listener.

    Yes:

This album offers us so much beauty in music.
    So much.

I found the Directors Cut video version of the Red Shoes on you tube recently, contributed by Kate4ever1. It was fantastic and dreamily imagainative, and furthers the Directors Cut idea of strong artistic remakes of earlier works a novel and worthwhile venture. The scene of a prima ballerina, dancing in a concert hall, as she transits from one diverse scene to scene like in a dream, until finally she nearly throws herself away from a ballistrade like perch overlooking an adjacent outside river at the end of the video; these are the basics that comprise the new video version. Both versions are highly imaginative and thus expands the nature of each song into new directions.
