Sunday Times Magazine interviews John Carder Bush

Sunday Times ad

Tomorrow’s edition of the Sunday Times Magazine in the UK and Ireland will feature an interview with Kate’s brother, John. This is to coincide with the publication on November 20th of a new edition of his iconic book of photographs of Kate as a child, ‘Cathy’. The book can be pre-ordered as a limited signature edition here, or on Amazon here (it is also available from all major booksellers).

First published as a run of just 500 copies in 1986, Cathy is a collection of photographs by John of Kate as a young girl, with accompanying text. This new edition – the first printing since the original edition – includes a new introduction by John Carder Bush, illustrated with eight previously unpublished photographs.

A beautifully bound hardback with a linen cover, head and tail bands and a matching linen slipcase, Cathy is comprised of twenty-eight cut out pages featuring the text, with full-page photographs revealed on a separate page beneath. The design matches the original limited run in layout, including the original introduction as well. (With thanks to Isabelle for posting the magazine ad)

“A separate edition of the book alone in a slipcase, priced at £40, will be published in November. It is available to pre-order from Amazon”

Hey, an expensive signature from John! (there are other extras as well of course).
I’ve also got a 10 yr old signatured/numbered book of his called ‘The Cellar Gang’, so that’ll be two signatures from John – I wonder if I can push him to get me his sisters – that would be nice! heh

Hmm… I am tempted but I am not sure if I can justify the extra £94 (the book is £26 on Amazon) – even though my mum has offered to buy it for me as a Xmas gift. Why did you decide to go for this Zounds? It’s a big investment.

        Hey Nigel,

To tell you the truth it was just I want that! and ordered it (after a few beers!). I did have a bit of an ‘ouch’ a few hours later and had to stick another £100 on my overdraft! hah, but no regrets – I wanted something extra nice to leave laying on my table along with the programme. The Homeground books will be next, can’t believe I haven’t got them yet, but what with the tickets and this impulse buy… Will probably treat myself (again) for christmas!

Ha ha. Thanks Zounds. The coffee table will look beautiful I’m sure! Just ensure you don’t spill anything on your £120 purchase. I think I’ll stick to the £26 version on Amazon but I also have the Homeground books in my sights. What with my trips to London to see the shows and the armfuls of merchandise I carried away on both occasions – it’s been an expensive Autumn!

Hi kate. I lived in brewery road Plumstead
and remember you as a young girl as your father was our Dr and I used to see you in his surgery just off of Plumstead high street.
I have been reliving my young days and am addicted to your music and dance. Thank you for helping me through a few very dark years with your wise words and music . You are very precious to me . Thank you kate!! xx
