I have just spent the last few hours in the company of a complete treasure trove of a book; Kate: Inside the Rainbow by John Carder Bush. “Treasure” is a good word here, I think the shimmer and glow of what’s unearthed here enhances and even changes how I think about some of the work that Kate has produced, so utterly associated as is it is with the visuals over the decades.
It’s also a supremely loving tribute to the entire extended Bush family, with an unexpected and sensitive biography of Kate thrown into the bargain. I learnt a LOT of new things. Every aspect of it – the tasteful modern design and layout, the brilliantly chosen visual surprises, the feel of the (sizeable!) tome in the hand, means that John has achieved what amounts to THE most relevant, important and visually sumptuous printed publication on Kate Bush to date. Of course he has. ~ Seán
(with thanks to Kirsteen Astor and congratulations to John on his superb book)
Thanks for the first impressions. I can’t wait to see this! I ordered the Special Edition so looks like I won’t be seeing it ’til sometime in December. But it will be worth the wait.
My copy arrived today & there are lots of beautiful & unexpected shots of Kate. Haven’t read all the biography yet but I’m sure it’ll make fascinating reading on the dark winter nights ahead! Well worth the £26 from amazon – stunning!
Wow! I wasn’t expecting so much. This book contains so many wonderful photos. It’s just fantastic!
Nicely summed up, Sean, without giving any spoilers at all. It really is special. I’m saving it up until our Christmas/New Year break when I can devote my full attention to this marvellous book. xx
Copy arrived in the States yesterday (terrible packaging, lucky it arrived intact). Delightful book.
Thank you, Sean. John’s book really deserves it. A truly magnificent labour of love and passion, both in visual form and storytelling. He has undoubtedly given so generously, and it is such a joy to see the book is such a big success!
Got it on Friday. Would have liked some captions under the photos. Also, I noticed there were no session notes for the 2011 shots. And I don’t think it includes every adult Kate shot did. But it’s still worth a buy.
Put on the radio this morning just in time to catch John Carder Bush giving an interview to Graham Norton on Radio 2. Such a nice surprise! Will be on iPlayer now I’m sure. Graham tried to eke out of John whether the tour DVD is to be expected, but as John so beautifully put it, “As is the case with Kate, when you want to build a cathedral, it’s not something you rush.”
Thank you very,much!
