Thomas Keery from Dog Kennel Productions has filmed a very fine version of Running Up That Hill from two of the participants in the recent Kate Bush tribute event marking International Women’s Day. In this clip, Fiona O’Kane and Frances Mitchell rehearse their cover of the song prior to Saturday’s event in the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast. Just lovely. (with thanks to Thomas for getting in touch)
The ‘Oh Yeah Centre’ in Belfast is hosting an International Women’s Day special of music and film celebrating Kate’s work. From the press release:
“The evening will feature live interpretations of her work, plus original material from local artists Fiona O Kane (runaway GO), Suzanne Savage, The Dandy Horses, Shannon O Neill, and Decomposing In Paris.
Kate Bush is one of the most successful female solo artists of the last 35 years. At the age of 19 she topped the UK singles charts with her debut single ‘Wuthering Heights’ which made her the first woman to have a number one hit with a self penned song. Since then she has released 10 albums, and has been nominated for and received several awards including an Ivor Novello in 2002. In 1980 her third album ‘Never for Ever’ made her the first woman ever to enter the album charts at number one.
In addition to celebrating her incredible and inspirational contribution to the world of music, the evening will also highlight an interesting link that she has with Belfast, through a short film. The story tells of how she sourced a Lambeg drum from a shop on Sandy Row, when recording the album ‘Hounds of Love’. The instrument which was specially commissioned went on to feature in the hugely successful tracks ‘Running Up That Hill’ and ‘Cloudbusting’.
The event which is free kicks off at 1pm with the screening of a Kate Bush documentary ‘Under Review’, plus live music from Wookalily, and a women’s safety info session. The evening event will start at 9pm.”

This year we pulled together The Sensual Walk event at the very last minute, helped in no small part by an amazingly generous offer to make use of the Sutton Martello Tower from its wonderful owner, Paul (thanks again, Paul!). Collaborating once again with the lovely Siobhán Kane and the brilliant Young Hearts Run Free collective, a fantastic day of walking, music and picnicking was had by all. Big thanks again to Adrian Crowley, Tieranniesaur, Donal Dineen, Seán Mac Erlaine, and Mike Stevens for performing in the tower for us. The Young Hearts Run Free blog site has been updated with photos of the event, held 15th June, which I thought would be nice to share. Check them out here.
Get ready, Chicago: some of the Windy City’s most Kate Bush-obsessed DJs and musicians have something special in the works.
On Wednesday, August, 21, The Whistler in the heart of Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood will play host to Song of Summer: A Kate Bush Tribute Night, a party celebrating the legendary British singer-songwriter’s illustrious career in honor of the 35th anniversary of the release of her debut album “The Kick Inside” this year.
Back after a brief hiatus, the third edition of a Kate Bush Tribute Night in Chicago will feature live performances from artists including Kyle Greer and Distant Cities. A trio of Bush-phile DJs including Belazauberin, Joshua and Josie Bush will play sets featuring music by Bush in addition to covers, remixes and songs by artists influenced by the ever-eccentric artist.
The event is free and will begin at 9:30 p.m. at the Whistler, 2421 N. Milwaukee Ave.

In the run up to the June 21st HomeGround Kate Bush party in London (read more here) some fans on Facebook have organised a relaxed meet-up at Efteling theme park in the Netherlands on May 25th. The park is famous among fans as the filming location of a Dutch Kate Bush television special in May 1978. Full details for the day are at this page here or join the organisers Facebook group here.
Yirry Yanya, the person behind the Efteling meet-up site, has recently won praise for this fan-made animation which they created based on Kate’s song Misty – check it out 🙂

Can you tell this event came together a bit later than usual this year? I’m very happy to say that The Sensual Walk event is happening again on Howth Head, Dublin Ireland on Bloomsday, Saturday 16th June. We are gathering at 2pm for a 3pm kick off at the summit car park in Howth. The event is inspired by Kate’s song, The Sensual World, and celebrates James Joyce, Ulysses, Dublin and of course Kate and her music. This year the event is being co-organised with the wonderful Siobhán Kane and Young Hearts Run Free, in aid of the Dublin Simon Community. We’ll have no evening venue this time, so the emphasis will be on music performances in the open air on the Hill of Howth by some great Irish musicians, recitations, peaches and seedcake on the hill and picnic fun! The event is “weather oblivious” so come prepared!
After the cliff walk down into the village of Howth, we will retire to The Bloody Stream pub (at Howth train station) for pints etc. Note that this is a busy weekend for Kate Bush related events and that Seán will of course be attending the HomeGround 30th Birthday bash in London the following day, Sunday June 17th – wish me luck! In 2012 we reach 30 years since we first decided to put out a Kate Bush fanzine and produced the very first copy with scissors and paste and the office photocopier.
We’re feeling the need to celebrate, and The HomeGround 30th birthday party is going to be relaxed and fun, a chance to meet other Kate fans and hear Kate’s music played in a club. This is not a convention with organised events or acts, just a chance to have fun and socialise in a Kate themed environment.
Lo-Profile is situated in the heart of Soho just five minutes walk from Piccadilly Circus Underground Station.
We are happy to confirm that the DJs on the day will be;
Paul Burston. Best selling author, Time Out journalist, promoter of Polari, and DJ. Paul first saw Kate Bush on Saturday morning TV performing Wuthering Heights and fell about laughing. A week later he went out and bought the record and hasn’t looked back since. An author and journalist, he has met many of his musical heroes, but not Kate Bush. He’s not bitter.
Phil Marriot. Phil is the head of music at Gaydar radio and has his own evening show on the station he is also a resident at XXL and has played at many top venues such as the RVT and Area and is one of London’s most respected DJs. He is a life long Kate Fan.
Dave Cross. Yes the HomeGround editor is also a DJ and has played at many top clubs including G-A-Y, Heaven and Fire.
Tickets for the party are just £6.00 each and can be ordered via the PayPal buttons at the top and bottom of the HomeGround Page.

From the organiser’s Facebook event page: “In honor of the release of Kate Bush’s first wholly new full-length album since 2005, “50 Words For Snow,” we are paying tribute to the legendary songstress extraordinaire once again. Parlour on Clark will play host to a coalition of Bush-phile DJs — DJ Joshua, DJ Belazauberin and DJ Josie Bush — spinning a selection of music and videos by Bush herself and the many other artists, new and old, who have been influenced by the innovating musician’s sprawling catalog. The event will serve as a fundraiser for TGIF (Trans, Genderqueer, Intersex Freedom) Pride. Attendees are invited to offer up a $5 suggested donation to help make the first-ever event happen and Bush-themed treats will also be available for purchase. All proceeds from both the door charge and the “50 Words” bake sale will benefit TGIF. Finally, we heard a rumor that several copies — both CDs and on vinyl — of “50 Words” will be up for grabs at the event. Well, our event on Howth Head went brilliantly on Saturday – we had sunshine (despite grim weather predictions) and a happy crowd enjoyed the cliff walk before we headed into Dublin for a superb night of live music. Thanks a million to the Prairie Dawgs, Jeroen Saegeman, Richer than Astronauts, Mike Stevens, Carol Keogh and Band and Captain A. Kate songs covered through out the night included The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Cloudbusting, King of the Mountain, Hello Earth, Running Up That Hill, Hounds of Love, Wow, Babooshka and Army Dreamers, exceptional performances all. Thanks to all who attended and to Thomas Dunning for supplying the Georgian chanting!

Irish singer Carol Keogh, of Plague Monkeys, Tycho Brahe and Autamata, will be performing a solo set at the evening part of The Sensual Walk in the Odessa Club, Dublin on June 18th. She joins Captain A, Mike Stevens of Groom, Richer Than Astronauts, Jeroen Saegeman of Walpurgis Family and the Prairie Dawgs for a great evening of music and Kate Bush type things, with the promise of some Kate Bush covers along the way!
